Background

John Friend has worked on many soil and farming system projects in north-western and central NSW. He led the research initiative for the NSW Salinity Strategy from 2001-2005, was leader of the NSW DPI Soil Extension network from 2006-2009 and assessed significant state developments (primarily coal and gas developments) from 2009-2015, providing input into NSW policies and legislation. He currently leads the team of NSW DPI soil researchers in northern NSW, is a member of the Australian Soil Network tasked to implement the National Soil R,D & E strategy and is involved in past and present projects in delivering soil data.
