Matias has extensive experience in cattle breeding and genetics. He grew up in a country town in Argentina and graduated from Vet school at the University of Buenos Aires in 1998.

Matias worked as a private vet specializing in beef reproduction until 2002. In May of that year Matias moved to Armidale, NSW, to study at the University of New England, graduating with a Masters of Agriculture majoring in Animal Production in 2003.

In 2005 Matias obtained a Masters of Science from the Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit (AGBU) of the same University majoring in quantitative genetics.

After this second round of studies, he started working as a geneticist at the Agricultural Business and Research Institute (ABRI) of the same University working on the RD&E of BREEDPLAN and related technologies for a period of five years.

In February 2010 Matias moved to Brisbane to work as Technical Services manager for Pfizer Animal Genetics, later known as Zoetis. In this role he worked on the implementation of genomic technologies on the beef and dairy industries in Australia and overseas.

In April 2014 he moved back to Armidale and joined NSW DPI's Beef Industry Centre as a Technical Specialist, beef breeding and genetics.
