Melinda Gabor studied Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney and completed an intercalated Bachelor of Science (Veterinary) degree in 1992 in the Department of Veterinary Pathology in collaboration with the CSIRO. Her thesis was entitled “Interactions between the neural and immune responses in the gastro-intestinal tract of sheep”. Melinda participated in the Leadership Program for Veterinary Students at Cornell University in 1993. She graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney in 1994. Melinda gained her PhD in Immunology from the Centenary Institute of Cancer Medicine and Cell Biology with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney in 1999 through research on the “Regulation of mature T cell production by the thymus”. She has been a Veterinary Pathologist in the State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at the Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute since 2008. Melinda attained Membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (MACVSc) in the field of Pathobiology by examination in 2010. She attended the Descriptive Veterinary Pathology Course at Cornell University in 2011. In 2012 she became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists upon completion of the college board exams and was registered as a specialist veterinary practitioner in Veterinary Anatomical Pathology in NSW. She accepted the position of Principal Veterinary Pathologist at the State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at EMAI in late 2012.Melinda is involved in diagnostic veterinary pathology across a wide range of species and currently has a special interest in diseases of aquatic organisms, particularly oysters.
