Wollongbar Primary Industries Institute (WPII) is a major research centre for NSW Department of Primary Industries, located on the NSW Far North Coast, and comprises four main sites; Wollongbar, Alstonville, Pearces Creek and Duck Creek.
The Institute supports the local community and sustainable, profitable agriculture, horticulture, forestry and fisheries through cutting edge research on soils, pest management, biotechnology, food safety and animal diseases and social sciences, and the provision of soil, water and environmental analyses.
Cutting edge research takes place at WPII, primarily centred around soils, horticulture, food safety and animal health. Internationally recognised scientists at the Institute collaborate with a range of industry, government, universities, and other organisations.
Other professional officers at the Institute work closely with local government, other State agencies and community in resource management, including aquatic ecosystems, water, land use planning, development and climate.
In addition to research and development, a number of key DPI programs are also run out of the Institute.
The Institute has a range of research, community and farming resources.
Located in the Northern Rivers, the Institute experiences a subtropical climate.
Established in the 1880's, the Institute has been conduscting research across horticulture, livestock, soils, biosecurity, fisheries and more for over 125 years.
