Illustration of White wax scale

Illustration of White wax scale

This is an illustration of White wax scale Ceroplastes destructor Newstead (Hemiptera:Coccidae)

Order reference: white-wax-scale

So called because of the white waxy covering which is so evident in the background image and so evident on citrus trees when infested with this pest. Zeck departs from his usual magnifying glass in this image to show the life stages of the insects in a simple circle. This is believed to be one of the earlier paintings of the series because of this. Zeck has taken the liberty of showing the adult female scale without its white waxy covering.
