2017 Citrus R&D roadshow

NSW DPI, in collaboration with citrus industry organisations, arranged a series of regional citrus research and development (R&D) roadshow seminars in late September to mid October 2017.

They were conducted at:

  • Western Australia (Tue12 September, Novotel Vines resort, Swan Valley)
  • Riverina (Mon 16 October, Griffith Leagues Club )
  • Sunraysia (Wed 18 October, Mildura Lawn Tennis Club)
  • South Australia (Thu 19 October, Loxton Research Centre)

It was a full day event with lunch. The Queensland event presented relevant topics of the roadshow at the Citrus Australia Regional Advisory Committee workshop in November 2017.

The aims of the roadshows were to; provide citrus production and technical information in a practical format that has on-farm relevance, update industry on the progress of current citrus R&D projects and address regional production issues. Field visits on following days were included.

Topics

Some of the core topics include:

  • insect pests: citrus gall wasp, red scale & Fuller’s rose weevil
  • weeds: fleabane, Rhodes grass and ryegrass control
  • disease: black core and Phytopthora rot
  • economic analysis: windbreaks and overhead netting
  • grower experience: overhead netting and high density
  • replanting: new Chinese rootstocks, reworking and varieties
  • production: growth regulators for fruit set and navel end size reduction trial results
  • extra regional specific topics are outlined in the program
