Seed sources

Where there is a choice and where it is economical to harvest native grass seed locally, then the use of local provenances has the advantage that the genotypes used are adapted to the local rainfall and temperature regimes, if not necessarily to the substrate conditions. When seed of a wider range of native grasses becomes available commercially, it is anticipated that genotypes adapted to a wide range of environments will be marketed, as is the case with introduced species (e.g. Chloris gayana).
