Clean Coastal Catchments macadamia nutrient research update

This webinar presentation gives an update on CCC investigations into the nutrient requirements of commercial macadamia trees, followed by a discussion on how this nutrient research, combined with findings on erosion management, can be implemented on-farm to reduce potential nutrient loss into the environment.

The webinar is presented by Jeremy Bright, Macadamia Development Officer with the NSW Department of Primary Industries Horticulture Unit. Jeremy is also a key researcher with the Clean Coastal Catchments (CCC) team.

As part of the project Jeremy Bright and Scott Hill from Healthy Hills Horticulture are investigating the extent of nutrient removal per tonne of macadamia nut in shell produced.

“The ultimate aim of this research is to understand the movement of nutrients through the soil, into the plant, and lost to the system through nut yield,” said Jeremy Bright.

“We are developing evidence based recommendations to support more efficient fertiliser management in macadamia orchards.”

Jeremy and Scott are looking at nut nutrient values across a total of eight macadamia varieties commonly grown in Australia. Preliminary results from the nutrient value research will be discussed during the webinar.
