The Animal Welfare Advisory Council (the Council) is a non-statutory committee established by the Minister for Agriculture, Minister for Regional New South Wales, and Minister for Western New South Wales to provide advice on animal welfare issues to the NSW Government.
Under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 section 34A(2), the Council has the responsibility of reviewing and commenting on proposed regulations relating to the welfare of species of farm or companion animals.

Members are appointed by the Minister for a term of up to three years. The current membership terms end on 30 November 2023.
The NSW Minister for Agriculture, Minister for Regional New South Wales, and Minister for Western New South Wales (the Minister) is seeking nominations for people with experience and scientific expertise in animal welfare matters to join the Council.
The Council consists of 8 members. Members are appointed by the Minister for a term of up to three years.
