The NSW Government has undertaken community consultation on ways to improve animal welfare outcomes in NSW poultry industries.
The consultation was undertaken by a former NSW Chief Veterinary Officer and included community and stakeholder meetings in Sydney and regional areas as well as an online survey.
Feedback from the consultation process will help shape the NSW Government response to the draft Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry, currently under development.
The draft standards cover a range of welfare issues including nutrition, housing, animal husbandry, biosecurity and on-farm management.
The NSW Government is currently considering community feedback and will draw on this input, alongside the latest science, in finalising the standards and guidelines with other States and the Commonwealth.
