Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and decontamination procedures for property owners

Summary

Contact with Hendra virus positive animals, suspect animals, close contact susceptible animals, and contaminated or potentially contaminated land should be minimised.

Minimal PPE (disposable overalls, boots) can be used if entering a contaminated site but not approaching within 5 metres of horses within 1 metre or companion animals.

Only a limited number of adults should have contact with sick or close contact animals and PPE must be worn when handling or doing essential animal welfare tasks e.g. feeding, watering, veterinary care and essential exercise.
