NSW DPI regularly engages with its stakeholders on changes to policy and legislation.
This is generally done through the release of a discussion paper and an invitation for stakeholders to make submissions.
The following discussion paper is currently on public display for feedback.
The Stock Medicines Regulation 2010 explains the records that veterinarians must keep relating to the supply of stock medicines, rules around the supply of stock food that has been treated with stock medicine, and prohibits the advertising of certain stock medicines.
The Stock Medicines Regulation 2010 will be repealed on 1 September 2019 and remade with minor changes. Minor amendments include the removal of two references to repealed sections of the Stock Medicines Act 1989, as well as the removal of seven penalty notices to reflect the difficulty of compliance officers deciding whether or not offences are committed “knowingly” or “intentionally” – where this is required the current penalty notice (an on the spot fine) will be removed in favour of offences being heard in court.
The remade Stock Medicines Regulation 2019 with amendments, will commence on 1 September 2019.
We are only making minor changes as we are conscious of the national policy discussions that are underway with the harmonisation of agvet chemicals. We note that the national policy discussions will necessitate a future review of the regulation to embed these arrangements into NSW legislation.
NSW DPI invites stakeholders and interest groups to make submissions on these amendments.
