Name:Cotton pest management

Cost:Pre-approved applicants will be funded through the NSW AgSkilled training program.
Course aim:To enable farmers and advisors to build on or refresh their knowledge of cotton physiology and pest management. Training includes best practice methods of pest identification, as well as development and implementation of a pest management plan. If you are an agronomist, advisor, or farmer who is involved in the cotton industry then this course will be highly beneficial to you, your clients, and your business.

This is a four day course conducted over three workshops.

  • Workshop 1 – two days
  • Workshop 2 – one day
  • Workshop 3 – one day (conduct of workshops dependent on seasonal outcomes).
Course program/structure:
  • Cotton physiology 101 – really understand a cotton crop
  • The insects and beneficials that affect the cotton industry
  • Insect sampling and plant monitoring
  • Pest control decisions and options
  • What influences the success of pest management in high yielding cotton crop
  • Developing a pest management plan
  • Implementing a pest management plan
Resources and method of delivery:

Workbook and reference publications provided.

The course is face to face delivery.

Students will need to complete two assessment tasks between Workshop 1 and 3.
