Name:SMARTtrain® Chemical Application (Level 3)
Description:A course for people that use pesticides with powered and hand-held application equipment.
Cost:After NSW Government subsidy, $445 GST-free.
Includes SMARTtrain® card issue.
Course aims:This course will increase participants understanding in relation to the safe transport, storage and use of hazardous chemicals and meet the training requirements of:
  • the NSW Pesticides Regulation 2017 (or equivalent legislation as relevant to each state/territory)
  • the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (or equivalent legislation as relevant to each state/territory)
  • the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) AgVet Code
  • industry quality assurance programs such as Freshcare.
Course program/structure:
  • Integrated pest and resistance management
  • Legislation in the workplace including recordkeeping requirements
  • Using chemicals according to the label and SDS
  • WHS and the workplace
  • Application equipment and calibration
  • Chemical application including spray plans and drift management and residues
  • Transport, storage and disposal of hazardous chemicals
Length:2 days 
Resources and method of delivery:Participants will receive the following resources:
  • A reference manual
  • An assessment guide
  • A NSW State legislation supplement
  • A Calibration and Records supplement

This course is delivered indoors.

Accreditation:This course is mapped to the following national units of competency:
  • AHCCHM303 - Prepare and apply chemicals
  • AHCCHM304 - Transport and store chemicals

NOTE: It is a legislative requirement for people using chemicals unsupervised to be accredited. Your SMARTtrain® accreditation is valid for five (5) years.
