Description:This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to enter and work safely in confined spaces. This course is appropriate for those working in operational roles undertaking work in confined spaces.
Course aim:

This course aims to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to enter and work safely in confined spaces.

Learning outcomes: At completion of this course participants will be able to;
  • Plan and prepare for working in a confined space
  • Work in a confined space
  • Exit confined space
  • Clean up
Length:2 days
Course program/structure:

Day 1

  • Legislation
  • Hazardous atmosphere
  • Hazardous substances
  • Hazards and confined spaces
  • Risk management and confined spaces

Day 2

  • Revision from Day 1
  • Implementing controls
  • Practical assessment
  • Exercises

For participants completing the refresher component only, they will commence on Day 2.

Resources and method of delivery:

Day 1: Theory and practical activities

Day 2: Theory, practical activities and demonstration of working safely in a confined space.

Participants will be provided with course notes and manual.


This course is mapped to the following national unit of competency, RIIWHS202D - Enter and work in confined spaces.

NOTE: A pre-requisite for this course is a current Senior First Aid certificate.
