Wondering how to compare fertilisers?

Farmers looking for a simple calculation to work out how much nutrient to put on specific soil types are encouraged to take a look at the NSW Department of Primary Industries' (DPI) website for the latest helpful information.

DPI extension agronomist, Ms Carol Rose, based at Kempsey, has recently published an Agnote called 'Fertiliser Calculations' on the website.

The Agnote covers such things as the cost per single nutrient, so that people can compare the cost of various nutrients of various fertilisers, and the rates to apply.

Ms Rose said people should select fertilisers for the nutrients they supply, what your soil lacks and what your plants require.

'If only one nutrient is deficient, compare fertilisers on the cost of that nutrient,' she said.

She also provides a calculation to compare the cost of that

In addition, the Agnote covers such things as response to fertiliser, availability, handling, timing and placement and side effects.

You can find this Agnote on: www.agric.nsw.gov.au/reader/soil-fertilisers/fert-calcs-dpi496.pdf

Fertiliser Calculations' is only available as a web publication.
