Calling all women to Bega for a weekend of learning, life experiences and entertainment

Bega is gearing up for one of its biggest weekends next month when it will host the 13th annual NSW Women’s Gathering.

Committee president Wilma Chinnock urged anyone interested in attending to hurry and register for what is expected to be a weekend of inspiration on the October long weekend.

“It isn’t too late for women to register, but we certainly urge them to get organised and confirm their attendance now,” she said.

“We need to have numbers finalised by early next week and hope to have at least 300 women from across the state, and from all walks of life, to help make this gathering one of the most successful yet.”

“Our Gathering’s theme is “Be all that we can be” which we believe covers the range of inspiring and entertaining speakers, workshops and activities we have planned for the weekend.”

At the gathering participants will also have access to health and other government agency personnel, as well as a market featuring locally produced goods, displays and an art exhibition.

The Rural Assistance Authority (RAA) is offering subsidies to assist a limited number of women in drought affected areas to meet some of the costs associated with attending the Gathering. To apply contact Sonia Muir at the DPI’s Rural Women’s Network on 02 6391 3611.

Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is offering $100 each for up to 12 women from within its south eastern catchment area to attend the Gathering. For more information please call Jane Caldwell on 422 49703.

Interested people should both register and arrange accommodation as soon as possible. For more information contact Wilma Chinnock Ph 6493 8310 or wilmachinnock@yahoo.com.au or Dawn Hollins Ph 6492 3005.

The Gathering gets underway on Friday, 30 September with a ‘Taste of the Bega Valley’ meal at the Bega Town Hall, and concludes early Sunday afternoon with keynote speakers, workshops and tours.

Minister for Natural Resources, Primary Industries and Mineral Resources Ian Macdonald will officially open the gathering.
