Angler's fees fund fish cleaning tables in Laurieton

NSW Fisheries today announced that $2,500 from the NSW recreational fishing licence will be used to install a much-needed fish cleaning table at Laurieton.

The funding, to be matched by the Laurieton United Services Club, provides for a cleaning table to be built on public ground near the club premises, where there are currently no formal fishing cleaning facilities.

The project is part of more extensive capital works being undertaken by Laurieton United Services Club, which includes the construction of a wharf, pontoon and a boat ramp, all with public access.

The newly constructed pontoon will provide the only boat access for disabled and elderly people in the Camden Haven.

NSW Fisheries Director-General, Steve Dunn, said this is a good example of anglers' fees at work.

"All money raised by the NSW recreational fishing licence is placed into saltwater and freshwater trusts overseen by anglers and used to improve recreational fishing," said Mr Dunn.

"Fish cleaning tables provide an important, direct service to anglers. They also promote a tidy environment and help prevent littering.

"Funding for this project comes from the Recreational Fishing Trust's Small Grants Program. Under the program, community groups are invited to apply for grants of up to $5,000 on a matching dollar-for-dollar basis.

"This year $50,000 is available for projects to improve recreational fishing under the saltwater trust's small grants program, with a further $20,000 available for freshwater projects from the freshwater trust."
