Angler's fees fund fish cleaning tables in Taree

NSW Fisheries today announced that $3,800 from the NSW recreational fishing licence will be used to install a much-needed fish cleaning table at a popular fishing spot in Taree.

The funding, to be matched by Greater Taree City Council, provides for a cleaning table at Endeavour Place on the Manning River.

The cleaning table will be installed by the Manning River Sustainable Fishing and Tourism Committee.

Currently there are no fishing cleaning facilities provided at this location.

NSW Fisheries Director-General, Steve Dunn, said this is good example of anglers' fees at work.

"All money raised by the NSW recreational fishing licence is placed into saltwater and freshwater trusts overseen by anglers and used to improve recreational fishing," said Mr Dunn.

"Fish cleaning tables provide an important, direct service to anglers. They also promote a tidy environment and help prevent littering.

"Funding for this project comes from the Recreational Fishing Trust's Small Grants Program. Under the program, community groups are invited to apply for grants of up to $5,000 on a matching dollar-for-dollar basis.

"This year $50,000 is available for projects to improve recreational fishing under the saltwater trust's small grants program, with a further $20,000 available for freshwater projects from the freshwater trust."

An application from can be obtained from the NSW Fisheries website at www.fisheries.nsw.gov.au.
