Angler's fund better fish cleanbing tables in the Shire

NSW Fisheries today announced a total of $10,000 of funds from the NSW recreational fishing licence will be used to install fish cleaning tables at two popular fishing spots in the Sutherland Shire.

The tables will be installed at Hawkesbury Esplanade, Sylvania Waters, and at Swallow Rock Reserve, Gray's Point.

NSW Fisheries Director-General, Steve Dunn, said this is good example of anglers' fees at work.

"All money raised by the NSW recreational fishing licence is placed into saltwater and freshwater trusts overseen by anglers and used to improve recreational fishing," said Mr Dunn.

"Fish cleaning tables provide a direct service to anglers. They also promote a tidy environment and help prevent littering.

"Recreational fishing is a great attraction at this location, especially for holidaymakers. The new table will be a welcome addition."

The tables will be installed by Sutherland Shire Council in conjunction with an upgrade of the boat ramp and associated facilities within two public reserves in the Sutherland Shire.

"Funding for this project comes from the Recreational Fishing Trust's Small Grants Program. Under the program, community groups are invited to apply for grants of up to $5,000 on a matching dollar-for-dollar basis," said Mr Dunn.

"This year $50,000 is available for projects to improve recreational fishing under the saltwater trust's small grants program, with a further $20,000 available for freshwater projects from the freshwater trust."
