Fisheries exhibit at the Sydney Royal Easter Show

NSW Fisheries Sydney Royal Easter Show interactive exhibit on fishing and the aquatic environment is proving popular with show-goers.

The exhibit is showcasing some of the innovative ways NSW Fisheries works with commercial fishers, fish farmers and anglers to share and conserve our aquatic resources.

The Director-General of NSW Fisheries, Steve Dunn, said show-goers can see live seahorses and learn how NSW Fisheries is working to protect them and other threatened species.

"Live NSW seafood, including yabbies, sea urchins, crabs and finfish, are featured in an aquarium, and children can take part in the 'identify the fish' challenge as part of the interactive trail around the Learning Centre.

The NSW Fisheries exhibit is in the Agriculture Learning Centre at the Munro Pavilion, and is be open from 9:30am to 6:30pm each day until April 15.

"The exhibit also includes information on how NSW Fisheries is working with commercial prawn fishers to make their fishing gear more environmentally-friendly," Mr Dunn said.

"Devices which attract fish, and which have been installed along the NSW coastline to improve anglers' chances of catching large fish, are also on display."

"NSW Fisheries staff and Fishcare volunteers are at the exhibit to answer queries and provide a wealth of information on NSW fishing rules, responsible recreational fishing, marine protected areas, fishing research and other interesting topics.

"On Tuesday, April 13, this year's farmed prawn and oyster Grand Champions will be announced as part of the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show's Aquaculture Competition.

"Sponsored by NSW Fisheries, these awards are raising the profile of the aquaculture industry in NSW and encouraging new participants and investors."
