Calling young anglers to come and catch a big one

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) is urging keen young anglers and would-be anglers in the Narrandera area to brush up on their fishing skills or learn how to fish at a special fishing clinic being run on Friday 14 January.

The clinic is being held at theNarrandera Fisheries Centre, Buckingbong Road, off the Sturt Highway, from 10 am to 3 pm.

Manager of the Narrandera Fisheries Centre, Les Rava, said the fishing clinic being run by DPI Fisheries staff would give children aged between eight and 14 years the chance to practise casting, rigging, tying knots and fishing.

"Youngsters will also learn about bag and size limits, aquatic habitats, threatened species and ethical fishing practices," he said.

"They might even catch a big one and be the envy of their family and friends."

Mr Rava said fishing clinics were being held around the State as part of the NSW Government's commitment to teaching children about recreational fishing and conservation.

"The youngsters will get the chance to put their new skills into action by fishing for perch.

"Each child will come away with fishing gear, including a rod and reel", Mr Rava said.

The cost is $20 a child.
