Holiday fun in the forest

Children will have the chance to try out as mini rangers in the holiday fun line-up at Cumberland State Forest.

“This unique urban forest has something for everyone,” says ranger Amelia Jones.

“There is an activity to suit most ages. The holiday groups are focussed on fun and children are actively encouraged to participate.”

Cumberland ’s summer school holiday program runs from Wednesday, 5 January to Tuesday, 25 January 2005.

The activities run for an hour and cater for children between the ages of 6 and 12 years. Bookings are essential.

“ Cumberland State Forest is a great place for families to experience the outdoors in a safe and friendly environment,” said the acting assistant manager Gerard Nolan.

”There are a number of picnic areas and walking trails to choose from.

“People can stay and have a barbecue or enjoy a cooked meal at the cafĂ©.”

One popular summer program for families is the night walks.

Visitors can join the rangers for a night time prowl of the forest and be amazed by the nocturnal activity of some of the native creatures that live there.

There is also a nursery, forest shop and information centre in the forest, which are all close to the parking areas.

Cumberland State Forest is readily accessible, located within the Sydney urban area at 95 Castle Hill Road, West Pennant Hills.
