Clyde Ridge Road upgraded

Forestry Corporation Southern Region has just completed an extensive upgrade of the eastern section of Clyde Ridge Road, which is one of the main access roads into Pigeon House Mountain.

“A total 7.5 km of Clyde Ridge Road in Flat Rock State Forest north of Batemans Bay has been re-formed and graded using Forestry Corporation staff and equipment,” Forestry Corporation operations and fire manager, Julian Armstrong, said.

The bridge on Mares Hill Road, further to the west, was also redecked before the latest work was carried out.

“Several steep or slippery sections of Clyde Ridge Road have been gravelled to improve wet weather access, and two bridges have been replaced,” Mr Armstrong said.

“Load limits on Clyde Ridge Road and Mares Hill Road no longer apply, although a three-tonne load limit still applies to Yadboro Road.”

Locally grown ironbark girders were used in the replacement bridges, which are expected to provide a service life of around 40 years.

Local contractor Paul Colebrook supplied an excavator to dismantle the old bridges and install the new girders.

“This road upgrade will benefit residents, tourists and truck traffic, as Clyde Ridge Road is an important link to the Clyde River and Morton National Park,” Mr Armstrong said.
