Senior citizens tour pine plantations as part of Senior Citizens Week

Approximately 35 senior citizens from the Bombala Currawanna Home for the Aged toured State Forests’ plantations on Friday (12 March) as part of Senior Citizens Week.

The tour centered on Bondi State Forest and was conducted by State Forests foreman Mr Gary Moreing.

State Forests planning forester Mr Matthew de Jongh said Senior Citizens Week was a great opportunity for the State Forests to give the community an insight into forest management.

“So many of these people have lived for many years in areas surrounded by plantations, but have not had the opportunity to get out and learn more about how State Forests manages this very valuable resource on a day-day-basis for the best commercial, environmental and social outcomes,” he said.

“They visited an area where harvesting was in progress, an area that had recently been planted and an area that was in the process of being established for replanting.”

A delicious lunch at Bondi Forest Lodge and was provided by owner/managers of the lodge Mr Brian Humphries and his partner Chris.
