Swans Crossing picnic area closed

Swans Crossing Picnic and Camping Area will be closed to the public in the interests of public safety from today until further notice due to timber harvesting and haulage in the adjacent Kerewong State Forest.

“This operation will involve tree falling in areas adjacent to the camping and picnic area,” said acting harvesting forester for Forestry Corporation at Wauchope, Scott Mallyon.

“Timber haulage will be through Swans Crossing. The volume of heavy traffic within the camp site, and the difficulty in ensuring the public does not enter the harvesting area has necessitated the temporary closure of the area.

“Forestry Corporation has several alternative areas available to the public for camping. These include Slippery Rocks camping area, in Kippara State Forest and Cobrabald Recreation Area in Mount Boss State Forest.

“Access is suitable for two-wheel-drive vehicles and caravans.”

Mr Mallyon said the timber harvested from these native regrowth and plantation forests would be processed into range of products including telegraph poles, flooring and construction timbers much of which will be used in the local area.

Public enquires regarding the closure and alternative recreation areas should be directed to Forestry Corporation office in Wauchope on 02 6585 3744.
