Partial closure of Belanglo State Forest near Moss Vale for scout event

Forests NSW is advising the public that there will be a partial closure of Belanglo State Forest near Moss Vale in the Southern Highlands of NSW for an annual scout event to be held this Easter long weekend.

"The partial forest closure will be in place from 9 am on Friday 22 April to 12 noon on Monday 25 April when approximately 1,300 scouts will be using Belanglo State Forest for orienteering, navigation skills and other activities," Forests NSW Planning Manager, Tony Scherl, said.

"The public will still have access to Daly’s Clearing in Belanglo State Forest for camping until Monday morning. Daly’s Clearing will then be closed from 8 am to 12 noon, for the closing ceremony," he said.

"After 12 noon on Monday, Daly’s Clearing and rest of Belanglo State Forest will be re-opened for the public."

Mr Scherl said Forests NSW was lowering the speed limit on all forest roads in Belanglo State Forest to 40 kph (down from 60 kph) for the event.

"We are asking all members of the public intending to visit Daly’s Clearing in Belanglo State Forest to be aware of scouts moving about the forest, and to drive safely at all times," he said.

"No trail bikes will be allowed in Belanglo State Forest during the partial closure.

"There are alternative areas for trail bike riding in nearby Penrose and Wingello State Forests."

Mr Scherl reminded the public that all vehicles must be registered to use forest roads.

He said visitors to Belanglo State Forest should follow the directions of the Forests NSW staff and rangers on duty.
