Bonito
Distribution: These fish are commonly found in schools in bays, large estuaries and coastal waters of NSW.
Size: May reach a total length of around 100cm.
Characteristics: These fish have horizontal stripes running down their upper and middle flanks with a green/blue colouration dorsally fading to a lighter green then silver on the belly. Bonito have moderately large, strong jaws which carry a single row of relatively small, but distinct, conical teeth
Confusing species: Other small tuna and mackerel species such as the leaping bonito and striped tuna.
