The Biometrics unit supports DPI research staff and their collaborators with expertise in all aspects of statistical analysis. Our services include assistance with project development, promoting scientifically sound and cost-effective research and implementing appropriate statistical methods. We also undertake applied research motivated by problems of relevance to NSW DPI or arising from collaboration between NSW DPI and industry.
Consultations are welcome at any stage of a project and particularly during the planning phase. Contact the nearest biometrician or the biometrics research leader for more information.
We support staff training through provision of basic and specialised courses in statistics, research methodology and the use of statistical software. Our role is to underpin the research portfolio of NSW DPI with the provision of high quality advice and to ensure validity and efficiency of the research effort and expenditure.
Key research infrastructure
Biometricians are based in the DPI centres at Wollongbar, Armidale, Tamworth, Ourimbah, West Pennant Hills, Menangle, Orange, Trangie, Wagga Wagga, and Yanco.
Key research collaborations
The Biometrics Unit has established several strategic alliances to enhance its research and development delivery through external student supervision, collaborative projects or commercial agreements. It has links with the University of New England, the University of Western Sydney, the University of Newcastle and Victorian Department of Primary Industries.
The Biometrics Unit has online summaries of its scientific outputs. In some cases the summary has the full outputs available as a PDF which can be downloaded. The scientific outputs are arranged by year of publication.
