Carbon Neutral Research Stations

NSW DPI Carbon Neutrality - Research Station pilot farms

Overview

DPI is seeking to demonstrate carbon neutrality on at least 4 of its 25 research stations by 2030. In doing so we will be seeking to attract and demonstrate commercially applicable knowledge, technologies and management practices that reduce emissions whilst maintaining productivity.

« The Problem

Climate change is the biggest threat to our future existence with agriculture being one of the top three emitters of Green House Gas emissions.

» The Solution

13,000 hectares of trial sites across 25 Research Stations welcoming commercial partnerships to demonstrate, towards Net Zero.

NSW Primary industries must make a significant contribution to the goal of net zero emissions in NSW with the DPI taking the lead in implementing, demonstrating, validating and de-risking decarbonisation technologies on our 25 research stations with a focus on achieve carbon neutrality on 4 stations by 2030.

NSW DPI is committed to achieving exemplary decarbonisation practices for our research institutions and will meet or exceed where possible in relation to its legislative responsibilities and regulatory requirements for sustainability

»» The Opportunity

  • Demonstration of technologies leading to the increased demonstration, awareness and adoption of commercial solutions
  • Access to primary producers through open days and technolgy promotions
  • Linked increases in productivity and reductions in GHG emissions
  • Linked reductions in energy use and/or increases in clean energy use
  • Linked environmental uplift
