Southern Fish Trawl Transitioning Working Group

The Southern Fish Trawl Transitioning Working Group (SFTTWG) will be responsible for identifying and resolving issues, negotiating arrangements and providing advice to NSW DPI and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) on integrating the NSW Southern Fish Trawl (SFT) Restricted Fishery into the Commonwealth’s Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery (SESSF).

The Terms of Reference for the SFTTWG are to advise the Deputy Director General, Fisheries (NSW) and the Executive Manager, Fisheries Management Branch (Commonwealth), as requested, on:

  • transitioning the NSW Southern Fish Trawl Restricted Fishery (SFT Fishery) into the Commonwealth Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery (SESSF);
  • potential issues transitioning the SFT Fishery into the SESSF and options or possible solutions to any such issues;
  • information needs critical to the successful transitioning of the SFT Fishery into the SESSF; and
  • the extent, nature and timing of communication or consultation with relevant stakeholders, in particular the fishing industry participants that have a direct interest in the SFT and SESS fisheries.

The functions of the Working Group do not include making decisions, or representations on behalf of the working group to other Government and non-government bodies.
