Fishers for Fish Habitat Forum 2018

On 24-25 August 2018 participants converged on Ballina, north coast NSW, to celebrate nearly 10 years of Fishers for Fish Habitat Forums at the FREE 2018 Fishers for Fish Habitat Forum.

Recreational fishers from across NSW and interstate joined Department staff, natural resource managers, scientists, and like-minded individuals to find out more about fish habitat, what’s being done to protect it, and to learn how recreational fishers are making a difference to support the sport they enjoy.

The FREE 2 day event included a celebratory dinner, formal presentations from fishers, managers and scientists, and interactive discussions on all things fish habitat. Topics included how to get funding, what recreational fishers are doing to improve fish habitat and what you can do to get involved. A field tour visited rehabilitation sites including Emigrant Creek rock fillets and resnagging, South Lismore Duckpond weeding and revegetation project and Kyogle Fishway to see first-hand how fish habitat is being improved in the lower Richmond catchment
