Recreational fishing and camping facilities grants program

The Commonwealth Government is implementing a Recreational Fishing and Camping Facilities Program with a total of $20 million being provided to the States and Territories to administer grants to local councils to facilitate fishing and camping infrastructure projects. A total of $2.1 million is currently available in 2021/22 for the NSW Government to administer and distribute to councils for suitable projects.

Funding applications are now open. Applications close on 31 January 2022.

Who can apply?

Funding is available to NSW local government councils only.

What types of projects are funded?

The Recreational Fishing and Camping Facilities Program is designed to provide Australian tourists with more and improved amenities as they travel throughout NSW.

Projects seeking funding from the Program must address one or more of the following:

  • directly related to the provision of new or renewed infrastructure for recreational fishing, boating or camping
  • improve access to recreational fishing, boating or camping areas
  • improve infrastructure and facilities at recreational fishing, boating or camping areas or marine rescue.

Examples of eligible infrastructure projects include:

  • fishing platforms
  • fish cleaning stations
  • boat ramps
  • marine rescue facilities
  • toilet blocks
  • camping facilities
  • other infrastructure directly associated with recreational fishing, boating or camping.

Projects must be underway before 30 June 2022.

General instructions

There are two streams of funding available to applicants:

  1. small grants of up to $50,000 (exclusive of GST); and
  2. large grants of more than $50,000 (exclusive of GST).

Applicants may apply for more than one project, however, a separate application form must be submitted for each project.
