The Southern Pygmy Perch is a small-bodied fish growing to 65 - 85 mm in length. Individuals vary greatly in colour depending on local habitat and other environmental conditions. The Southern Pygmy Perch was once widely distributed throughout the Lachlan, Murrumbidgee and Murray River Systems, but has suffered large-scale reductions in its range since European settlement.
