General licence upgrade, refund or attempt the WIT

If you hold a NSW General Game Hunting Licence (G-Licence), you may choose from the following options by completing the relevant section of Form F4 - Upgrade, refund or attempt the WIT (PDF, 207.2 KB).

Applications must be received no later than 5 pm Monday 16 December 2019 to be eligible.

1. Benefits of upgrading to an R-Licence

The success and future of regulated hunting in NSW relies on legal, licensed and responsible hunters. We ask G-Licence holders who are no longer required to hold their private land deer hunting licence, to consider the benefits of holding an R-Licence and continuing to support this important program.

For a limited time only! We will support you to meet the R-Licence eligibility requirements and waive the upgrade fee.

How to upgrade

Step 1Download and complete the form (PDF, 207.2 KB), filling in Sections A, B and C. Use the details in Section F to submit your form to DPI.
Step 2 DPI will arrange for you to complete the R-Licence Accreditation Course with a Hunter LEAP Trainer or GLU staff member, and we will waive the fee.
Step 3 Following your accreditation, we will support you to become a member of an Approved Hunting Organisation. Membership charges may apply.
Step 4 Submit an upgrade form (provided by DPI) along with your accreditation form and proof of club membership to DPI. We will waive the normal upgrade fee and issue an R-Licence.

2. Attempt the WIT for native game bird hunting

The NSW Native Game Bird Management Program allows landholders managing the impacts of native game birds (ducks) on their agricultural crops, access to the support of licensed and endorsed waterfowl hunters who volunteer their time and resources.

Game hunting licence holders seeking to target native game birds must complete the Waterfowl Identification Test (WIT) and receive endorsement for the Native Game Bird Management Program.

Step 1Download and complete the form (PDF, 207.2 KB), filling in Sections A, B and D. Use the details in Section F to submit your form to DPI.
Step 2 DPI will arrange for you to attempt the WIT with an accredited instructor and waive the registration fee.
Step 3 Achieve a minimum score of NSW-T.
Step 4 Provide your WIT number of a copy of your WIT certificate to DPI for verification.
Step 5 DPI will issue a new licence card that is endorsed for native game birds and will mail you the Hunter Kit.

3. Apply for a pro-rata refund of your licence fee

If you decide that upgrading to an R-Licence or seeking native game bird endorsement is not right for you, you may apply for a pro-rata refund of the licence fee you paid.
