Matt Rees
Matt Rees is a Fisheries Scientist based at the Huskisson NSW DPI office, where he works on the Hawkesbury Shelf Marine Bioregion project funded under the Marine Estate Management Strategy. His current research project involves monitoring fish assemblages and key habitats throughout the Hawkesbury Shelf Marine Bioregion. He is also involved in a range of projects assessing the impact of human activities, such as anchoring, on seabed habitats and fisheries species.
Matt has a background in temperate fish ecology, with a particular focus on the importance of nursery habitats for maintaining fish populations. Prior to his role at the Department he worked at the Australian Institute of Marine Science in Perth researching coral reef sharks as part of the Global FinPrint project. Matt currently co-supervises Honours and PhD students at the University of Wollongong.
