Research Leader, Fisheries Resource Assessment
Biography
Michael Lowry is a Senior Fisheries Research Scientist based at the Port Stephens Fisheries Institute. He is the Research Leader for the Fisheries Resource Assessment Unit (FRA) which has responsibilities for the research program areas of Sustainable Fish Harvest and Fishery Enhancement.
Current research projects involve the deployment and monitoring of offshore and estuarine artificial reefs, and marine stocking. He also has an interest in the use of existing and emerging video and camera technology (photogrammetry) as a means of monitoring fish populations, particularly around artificial structures. Michael completed his PhD in 1997 (University of NSW) on the 'Home Range and Ecology of the Red Morwong'. He joined the Department in 1998 and has worked on a variety of projects primarily related to the assessment and enhancement of recreational and commercial fisheries.
