Hi <<First Name>>

Throughout this year DPI Hunting has focused on customer service and providing support to hunters across NSW. We're proud of our engagement and what we've delivered as part of your hunting community.

We remade the Game and Feral Animal Control Regulation to ensure safer hunting in NSW. We also made the R-Licence Accreditation Course more accessible by streamlining our system with an online learning hub. We'll have even more courses available next year.

We appreciate your eagerness to get out and hunt and we continue to work with Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW) to reopen more forests for our R-Licence holders.

DPI Hunting would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and New Year. Thank you to all the hunters who've made contact with us, through social media, an email or phone call - your continued support makes our jobs worthwhile!

Coolangubra State Forest is a Category 1 forest, open to hunting 7 days per week. It is a medium size forest that occupies an area of close to 9,000 hectares. Written permission to hunt can be issued for up to 24 hunters at any one time.

Keep you and your hunting dogs safe this tick season.

Take care to avoid tick bites and the range of harmful complications they bring with them, while you are out hunting.

Ticks inject a toxin that may cause local irritation or a mild allergic reaction, and in some cases may cause anaphylactic reactions, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Be sure to read the Department of Health’s information regarding tick bite prevention and how to remove ticks. Visit their website

First quarter maps for 2023 are now available in the booking system.

R-Licence hunters - make sure you log in and download the updated maps to your smartphone or GPS-enabled device from the online services portal before hunting.

If you use the Hunt NSW app to access your hunting maps while out in the field, you do not need to download the new quarter maps as they will update automatically in the app.

Login to online licence holder services using your licence number and security PIN to access the new hunting maps.

Leaseholder mapping layer

You may have noticed the map layer indicating leaseholder areas within a State forest are no longer displaying as solid brown. These are now a cross hatched brown layer to allow exclusion within these areas to show through.

Forest reopening

As of 1 January 2023, we have 1 State forest recently reopened for hunting by FCNSW:

✅Yarratt State forest

Check out our NSW public land hunting map to see which forests are currently open.

Login to online licence holder services using your licence number and security PIN to book a hunt and access updated maps.

*We continue to work with FCNSW to reopen more forests as soon as possible!

Google hunting map - animals harvested

Have you checked out our Google map lately? We’ve created a new layer to help you quickly see which forests have recently had animals harvested.

This new layer is an easier way to view harvest reports, rather than logging in to online licence holder services. It displays forests where species have been taken over the previous two-month period. Simply click the ‘paw’ icon to display.

Updated GPS guide and removal of redundant map files

In October 2021, we asked our licence holders which maps they use most often – thanks to everyone who responded!

It was pointed out to us that our GPS download guides were out of date, and our updated guide is now available!

Through this process, we discovered that the .img files are not compatible with a Garmin device using a Mac.

We also discovered that the .exe files, which are compatible with Garmin devices, use different colours that are inconsistent with other GPS map files provided.

From 1 December 2022, FCNSW will no longer supply the .exe or .img files.

Check out our updated guide for instructions on downloading and using .kmz Google Earth files with compatible Garmin devices.
Be on alert for snakes

Snake encounters in NSW bushland are common in the summer months. Being aware of your surroundings and wearing protective clothing (long pants and boots) could help you avoid an incident whilst hunting.

Most snakes only tend to bite when threatened or provoked. If you come across a snake, stay still, and when safe, slowly back away to a safe distance. Ensure you keep pets safe by discouraging them from exploring holes, digging under rocks and logs.

If you are bitten by a snake, click the link for St John's Ambulance First Aid advice for snakebites.
