Vincents Lookout road closed

Lookout Road in Lansdowne State Forest north of Coopernook has been closed temporarily due to harvesting operations in the area.

State Forest mid north coast region harvesting forester, Andrew McCurdy, said the temporary closure of Lookout Road was necessary in the interest of public safety.

“This is a very narrow section of State Forest road that is currently being used by log trucks to access timber harvesting operations in the area and it would not be safe to have other traffic using the road while the harvesting is in progress,” Mr McCurdy said.

Lookout Road provides access to Vincents Lookout. Alternative access to the lookout, for four-wheel drive vehicles only, is available via Longs Crossing Road.

Mr McCurdy said Lookout Road would be closed for the duration of the harvesting operation, which is likely to be around three months.

Timber harvesting in the area Lansdowne State Forests requiring closure of the road last occurred in the early 1990s.

“Following completion of this harvest we would not expect be logging again in the area accessed by Lookout Road for about 10 years,” Mr McCurdy said.
