NSW DPI State Co-ordination Centre

The NSW DPI Emergency Operations team is primarily responsible for preparedness and response to all-hazard emergencies (biosecurity animal/plant/aquatic/invasives and natural disasters).

Overview

The Emergency Operations team is a component of the Emergency Management Unit within Biosecurity and Food Safety. The Emergency Operations team is primarily responsible for preparedness and response to all-hazard emergencies (biosecurity animal/plant/aquatic/invasives and natural disasters). Under the State Emergency Management Plan, DPI is a combat agency for biosecurity responses, and is also a supporting agency to other combat agencies such as RFS and SES as the Agriculture & Animal Services Functional Area, providing specialist support to primary producers and the community.

In November 2021, the NSW Government opened its latest weapon in keeping the State safe from plant and animal biosecurity threats with the opening of a new $3 million State Co-ordination Centre at the Orange Agricultural Institute.

The centre improves the response capability of the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) for biosecurity emergencies and natural disasters to protect the states food and fibre industries.

The new coordination centre plays an integral role in mitigating the risk of a serious biosecurity event impacting the NSW agricultural sector and the State’s economy.

Biosecurity underpins NSW’s strong reputation for clean, safe food, supports market access and giving our producers a competitive advantage.

Rural and regional communities rely on primary industries and by increasing the response capability, DPI aims to respond faster and more effectively to contain and neutralise biosecurity and food safety threats. The centre gives the NSW DPI’s capability to mitigate the impact of emergency events with a focus on preparedness, response and recovery.

The benefit of a state-of-the-art facility is it can be stood-up quickly to ensure help is provided where it is needed most.
