Work Experience

OAI is pleased to host students conducting work experience. We offer a unique experience across several fields of agricultural science, horticulture, plant health, climate research and emergency response with hands on work in the field and the lab. To be considered for our work  experience program, apply online.

Careers in agriculture

OAI may undertake student internships and can collaborate with tertiary students on project based tasks across a broad range of fields including digital agriculture, chemistry,entomology, plant pathology and animal behaviour. Industry and workforce support

Industry Support

The OAI and its partner agency LLS conduct direct industry information and outreach activities at OAI. This includes :

  • Central Tablelands LLS advisory and services
  • DPI Research Unit  Events
  • Farms of the Future producer education program which provides advisory and grants to ag tech on  farms (commencing 2023). Learn more about the program and resources  here and watch video below

    Career and workforce opportuntities

    OAI is also commencing the DPI traineeship program  known as Agricultural  Pathways Program . The Program is a two-year employment opportunity with the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI).

    It provides a unique opportunity to gain practical experience to help kickstart a career in agriculture while also gaining a formal qualification in agriculture – from a Certificate III in Agriculture, through to a Diploma in Agriculture.

    Open to interested recent school leavers through to current and recent graduates of Certificate III in Agriculture or higher, the successful applicant will have a passion for agriculture and a keen interest in research and development.
