DPI Research & Development projects

Innovative Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) for sheep blowfly

Sheep blowflies costs the Australian sheep industry $173M annually. Together we have a good chance of developing sterile sheep blowflies and showing they can be used as part of an integrated pest management approach to control blowflies on a property level.

Enhanced preparedness for priority pests and diseases

This program will enhance the ability of NSW DPI to respond to incursions and outbreaks of priority pests and diseases.

Environmental DNA (eDNA) Research Plan for Rapid Detection of New Weed Incursions

This research project will develop novel environmental DNA (eDNA) detection and surveillance tools.

mRNA vaccines for livestock

The purpose of this research program is to develop LSD and FMD vaccines, demonstrate that they are effective and, most importantly, to demonstrate safety in food producing animals.
