Biography

Jane’s research uses a cross disciplinary approach, drawing on skills she learnt whilst working as a farm hand, horticulturalist and consultant in the agricultural sector.

Through my livestock, horticulture, and cropping research, I've identified industry vulnerabilities to climate change and extreme weather. I've also researched how these shifts will likely alter the distribution of biosecurity risks. I see it as vital to communicate this knowledge to help agricultural industries make informed decisions and prepare for the future.

As a Project Officer in the Climate Vulnerability Assessment team, I engage with industry experts to develop models for the horticulture, livestock, dairy, and biosecurity risks to conduct climate impact assessments. These models enable industry to develop evidence-based adaptation strategies and effectively respond to climate change.

I grew up on a mixed cropping and cattle farm in regional Victoria. My career has been driven by a need to help agricultural industries become more resilient. I have earned qualifications in horticulture, agriculture, and a PhD that focused on biosecurity control on dairy farms in Victoria. This research deepened my interest in encouraging the adoption of new technologies and modelling to enhance the productivity and profitability of agricultural systems.

I am part of a team dedicated to helping the agricultural industry prepare for the future. I am here to support those in agriculture by raising awareness of the impacts of climate change and biosecurity risks and implementing strategies to increase industry resilience
