Research Officer Bioenergy
Biography

Cath has a background in forest science research, GIS and horticulture. She started with the forest research group in 1997 and has 20 years’ experience working in this team with technical expertise in forest carbon and bioenergy; GIS and remote sensing; forest health surveillance; and vegetative propagation of hardwood species for tree improvement.

Cath is currently the Research Officer on the Climate Change Fund’s Biomass for Bioenergy Project which is looking at sustainable biomass use in NSW with a focus on electricity generation at varying scales and identifying available and potential feedstocks for bioenergy generation. Cath was previously  working on the national Australian Biomass for Bioenergy Assessment (ABBA) Project which ran from 2015-2020. Cath calculated and mapped biomass residues for key primary industries across NSW and these spatial datasets now support the Biomass for Bioenergy Project. The main biomass residues captured are from forestry, agricultural cropping and livestock, horticultural crops and urban solid organic waste.
