Important

The new Biosecurity (Fire Ant) Emergency Order (No 3) 2024 has revised the zones. The Order:

  • defines the NSW Protection Zone (blue), which is the whole of NSW excluding fire ant infested areas or movement control areas.
  • defines the QLD fire ant infested area (pink), which includes 5 km around all detections in QLD.
  • defines the NSW fire ant infested area (green), which includes areas in NSW within 5 km the detection in QLD.
  • defines the fire ant movement control areas (red) in South Murwillumbah and Wardell, which includes 5 km around all detections

If you are moving organic mulch, compost, growing media, manure, soil, hay, straw, chaff, silage, potted plants, turf, agricultural equipment, earth moving equipment, sand, gravel, chitters, coal fines, coal stone, overburden and decomposed granite from the parts of QLD and NSW shown in pink, red or green on this map, you must comply with the current Emergency Order.

The map shows the fire ant infested areas of South East Queensland and Northern NSW.

Note: The fire ant infested area is based on the Fire Ant Biosecurity Zone map published by the Queensland Government but modified for the purposes of this order. Previous iterations of this order have used the Interstate Plant Quarantine Zone map published by the Queensland Government. A copy of the Map as defined is included in the Schedule for information purposes only and can be found on the DPI website at: https://dpi.nsw.gov.au/biosecurity/insect-pest/fire-ants
