Animals in schools


The Animal Research Act imposes strict requirements on schools wishing to use animals for teaching. By following the advice provided in the guidelines produced by the Schools Animal Ethics Committee, teachers can lawfully use animals in pursuit of their educational objectives and related outcomes.

These guidelines explain what schools need to do if they are to satisfy the requirements of the Animal Research Act. They apply to all schools that have nominated the Schools Animal Ethics Committee to supervise the use of animals for teaching and research purposes.
