Developing farm gate marketing and tourism to enhance the cider industry will be the focus of the annual Cider Conference held in Batlow - home of the ‘Big Apple’ on 19 May.

Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Temperate Fruits Development Officer, Kevin Dodds said the Cider Conference has been very well attended in the past and we are looking forward to another successful gathering this year.

“Apple and pear growers, cider producers, marketers, juicing company representatives and industry suppliers will have the opportunity to hear the latest information from key cider industry guest speakers,” Mr Dodds said.

“The conference will also appeal to farm gate and cellar door type businesses interested in looking at new and innovative options for their business model.

“This year’s theme ‘Farm gate marketing and tourism’ will focus on assisting apple and pear producers to diversify their business, to value- add to their farm produce and to engage in direct selling through the farm gate, farmers markets or other channels.

“Regional development and tourism are under the spotlight at this year’s cider conference in response to feedback received from past conference delegates.”

Mr Dodds said the key note speaker and President of Cider Tasmania, Mark Robertson, will present his insights into bringing the farm to the consumers from his experience managing the award winning Lost Pippin Cider and the Tasmanian Cider Trail.

“Also participants will explore the benefits of social media to market their business, broaden their products reach and to connect with consumers,” Mr Dodds said.
