Jindabyne farmers to have their say on game and pest management

21 Nov 2018

Jindabyne landholders will have the chance to have their say on game and pest management at a forum that will be held during the next meeting of the Game and Pest Management Advisory Board.

NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI), Game and Licensing Unit Director, Andrew Moriarty, said the landholder forum would be held on Friday 23 November from 6-8pm at Rydges Snowy Mountains.

“This forum is intended to provide landholders with a unique opportunity to meet with the Advisory Board and DPI staff, and share information on issues they are facing,” he said.

“We encourage anyone who may be impacted by game and pest management issues to attend, as you’ll be able to discuss your challenges directly with the experts.

“Whether you’re trying to manage kangaroos, wild deer, pigs or other any other pest on your property, you’ll be able to have some useful discussions and learn more about the measures we have in place to support legal hunters in NSW.”

Aside from the landholder forum, Chairman of the Game & Pest Management Advisory Board, Professor Robert Mulley, said the two-day meeting (22-23 November) would give the Board a chance to discuss a variety of matters concerning hunting in NSW.

“The Board is appointed by the Minister for Primary Industries to represent the interests of licensed hunters and make recommendations on hunter education and game and pest animal management to the Minister and the DPI,” Professor Mulley said.

“A large focus of this meeting will be on illegal hunting, as well as game and pest management issues in the area.

“This Board is committed to helping communities in rural areas, which is why we have held most of our 17 meetings over our five year tenure in regional areas of NSW.”
