Riverina residents invited to share views on poultry welfare

12 Feb 2018

Riverina locals are invited to a community meeting in Wagga Wagga next week, Tuesday February 20, to share their views on new measures to improve poultry welfare.

Animal welfare proponent and former NSW Chief Veterinary Officer, Ian Roth, will host the session as part of an extensive consultation process on ways to improve animal welfare outcomes in NSW’s poultry industries.

The consultation process coincides with the development of the draft Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry.

“The draft standards cover a range of welfare issues including nutrition, housing, animal husbandry, biosecurity and on-farm management,” Dr Roth said.

“I encourage anyone with a view on poultry welfare to attend the meeting and be part of a productive discussion.”

“These issues affect a broad spectrum of the community, from poultry producers and industry to consumers, and we are offering a number of options so people can contribute to the process.”
