One-stop-shop at AgQuip for DPI and LLS services

19 Aug 2019

The North West community and visitors can get the latest advice when they visit the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and Local Land Services (LLS) during the AgQuip Field Days in Gunnedah from August 20 to 22.

The DPI and LLS stand is a one-stop-shop for a range of services and programs available to assist landholders, situated at site E-F /16-17.

NSW DPI Deputy Director General, Kate Lorimer-Ward, said NSW Rural Assistance Authority and Rural Financial Counsellors will be on hand to assist landholders to access support through the NSW drought assistance package.

“Young farmers are encouraged to come and find out about the great opportunities available to young farmers and fishers to enter into or expand their existing business through the Young Farmers Business Program,” Ms Lorimer-Ward said.

“Visitors can also come and talk to our fisheries officers to get important information about recreational fishing rules and regulations including bag limits, some size limits and fishing methods.

“Pasture dieback, a condition which kills summer grass pasture, has become widespread in Queensland. NSW DPI staff will highlight what graziers should look for and discuss biosecurity strategies for their properties.”

LLS Team Leader, Dale Kirby said LLS staff will be on hand to provide landholders with technical and advisory information on drought management, agricultural matters, livestock assistance, pest, disease and weed control.

“I encourage farmers to talk to the experts and find out how they can prepare and prevent plant biosecurity risks on their property,” Mr Kirby said.

“While conditions are tough at the moment, we want to assist landholders as best we can to plan for a healthy, sustainable future.”

The NSW DPI-GRDC Grower Forum will be held on Wednesday 21 August from 7.30am to 9.00am to give growers, agronomists and industry the chance to explore timely and relevant grains research. To book your place contact Liz Tydd on (02) 6763 1454 or liz.tydd@dpi.nsw.gov.au
